to believe in an invisible person who lives in the sky and watches everything that every single person at every single moment does than you are brain dead. you read the bible cause your foolish parents told you it was truth and their parents before them. people always blame jesus and god for the good things that happen to them - (I would like to first of all thank God for helping me win this award) - however they are reluctant to blame him for the bad things like your dog dieing or your retarded brother...next time you win an award try looking at what you did and not what you think "God" did for you...Believe in yourself not some fairy tale being who exists in a book of lies! Oh and by the way there is no evidence other than the bible Jesus ever existed...None!

We belive in God because it just feels safe to think that there is someone there.
And you're right, the bible IS full of lies. It says "the rabbit also, for though it chews cud,. ........" and other stuff that we now know is not true. But the books the bible is based on was written a looong time ago, so they belived what they saw. "The cow chew cud, and it eats grass, the rabbit eats grass, therefore the rabbit chews cud" was the way they thought then. So yes, the bible is full of lies, but it still makes sense.

For those of you who have faith, I ask you not to put too much confidence in the Bible. The book itself is highly bigoted and even contradicts itself. It's a nice collection of stories that may help you in certain situations, but it is not the be-all-end-all word of god. For instance this one passage:
Deuteronomy 21:18-21

"If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, 19 his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. 20 They shall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard." 21 Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death."

I know that there are no believers out there who would follow this kind of thinking. Follow what God would want you to do, not what the Bible says.

Wow, I should have been a little more involved in this one. First of all to the one who said that our parents forced us to read the Bible needs to step back and think before making comments that do not apply to all. That is called profiling. My parents did not make me read the Bible, I still do not read it for the reasoning that I do not believe that man could write a book and that is completely true and that GOD said so and therefore it is. I didn't even go to church as a kid, occassionally only. I am the only one in my family who has not been baptised also. So for you to say the reason I believe in GOD makes me brain-dead just justifies my believe in people who have nothing better to do then hate. I have looked to GOD in good times and bad times and even though I have no idea why some things are done I do know that everything happens for a reason. And may GOD bless you and help you find your way.
And to those who do believe in GOD, as do I, just because you have belief does not mean that you have to go overboard and convert everyone to Christianity. There are many religions and we are all entitled to ours.
This is why it is a subject best left alone. Too many people get on their high horses about their opinions and believe that they need to convince all at whatever cost. Can't we just accept the fact that we are all different and just get along....for GOD's sake! ;-)
