The pot will be split among the winners.
I made this bet because I have heard people say that it does, and I have always believed this. It seems to be true also. However, I want to get down to the facts. Does salt really make water boil faster, or is this just another myth?
I'm pretty sure its true. Thins the water, therefore decreasing the boiling temperature.
I never knew this I will have to put it to the test.
why would you ever need to know that? lol yeas im in the mood for a cup of tea, no i cant wait for 3minutes for the kettle to boil, i shall add salt to it! :S because i really want my tea to be made quick and nasty! :S lol
I always thought salt decreased the temperature needed to come to a boil too. Looking on the internet, though, it seems that once the water DOES come to a boil, it's at a HIGHER temperature and might therefore cook the pasta or whatever slightly quicker. http://www.wwnorton.com/cat...
I have no idea.
Great comments and yes, I do love my pasta!!! :)
of course it does. i always use it when i make pasta.
no it doesnt, it just makes the osmosial value higher thus alowing it to enter food faster, so it allows your food to cook faster, doesnt do anything to the watter
This is actually a tricky question. If you have 2 pans of equal watter and add salt to one of them. The pot without salt will boil faster. However if you premix a salt/water mixture (say 20% salt 80% water) and then fill the two pots equally one with water and one with the mixture the pot with the salt will boil faster because there is only 80% of water to boil rather then 100% of water to boil.
Salt has a higher boiling point.
no it doesn't because it makes the boil temp of the water higher
the salt i mean
